Conference Installation

Creating a Place within a Place

As a part of our conference, artist Mark Ragonese will lead an ongoing creation of a sculptural installation: a place within a place. Using mostly sticks and stones he has gathered near his home in Vermont, Mark will work to build a gathering space, a stage set, a story lodge, a place for meditation and contemplation.

Mark's work as an artist in residence in schools often combines story telling, object making, elements of the natural world, and unbridled imagination. This project will be part demonstration and discussion of how this approach to artmaking can work in schools and community settings and part building project that creates a place where members of the conference can gather, perform, invent, and add to the space. Spend a few minutes or as much time as you like.

Participants are invited to bring materials to contribute to the project (wood, fabric, etc.) and also to consider developing brief improvisational work (solo or as a group) that can be performed or presented at the end of the day.
